Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.

I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note. The diarist gets to sleep in if he/she so desires and can show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.

Mornin’ y’all —

Didn’t wanna post anything until I knew for sure, but here it goes…

Gotta little scare a coupla weeks ago.  My primary physician had called and said that my “blood was too thick”.  He referred me to a hematologist, who I had a telehealth session with two weeks ago yesterday.  She asked me to come in and have a little more blood drawn, because she believed I had polycythemia vera, a rare blood cancer that, left untreated, could turn into acute leukemia.

There are more strange, genetically mutated details to this story, but I got a phone call last night with her results — I tested negative for the “JAK2 v167 genetic mutation”, which was good news.  She asked me to come back in, though, to test for the “JAK2 Exon 12” variation, which I’m doing today.

Bottom line — anybody know anything about this?

Somewhat appropriate soundtrack…

Be good humans, will ya?

I’ll letcha guys know when I know something…
